The Art of Flow

To dance in unison with fire is an extremely humbling, and powerful experience. Something so beautiful and mesmerizing, yet so powerful and destructive - not to be controlled, but merely harnessed for a moment.

The Flowmiliars

On June 11th, 2023 the Flowmiliars Fire Spinning Conclave filmed their final submission for the council at Burning Man to review. I was fortunate enough to witness these warriors remain steadfast in their commitment to perform while looking adversity dead in the eye. After months of planning and practicing, the only day to film that everyone could be present was being threatened by violent storms in the area. Despite the looming threat of tornado warnings and storm clouds swirling all around us, they held their resolve. Even when it came to sheets of rain pounding down, and fire props that became too saturated to stay lit...they continued performing. Despite all of the challenges, they were still accepted to hold one of the few coveted spots carved out in the center of the main burn. That Burning Man became known to some as the "Mud Burn" - as if their final submission experience was an omen of what was to come, their performance got cancelled due to severe weather conditions at Burning Man.

Running water never grows stale, you've got to keep on flowing.
